in 1919, is the county seat of Indian River County. The county was established
in 1925, having formerly existed as part of St. Lucie County. Its first

Vero
Beach represents twelve square miles within the county, and offers 23
miles of sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean. Approximately 327,000 acres

acres and woodlands.
This warm
and welcoming town is geographically divided by the scenic Indian River,
with the land east of the river referred to as the barrier island (beachside),
and the land west of the river, the mainland.
The beachside
offers quality restaurants, specialty shops and boutiques, the nationally
recognized Center for the Arts and the Riverside Theater. Banks, professional
services, medical offices, churches and gourmet beach markets are all
available to those residing on the beach side. The Indian River Memorial
Hospital is located just over the bridge off of Indian River Boulevard.
